The Library Collection

The Gérard Cottet Library has a collection of more than 21,000 texts and bound periodicals. More than 160 videotapes, 650 audio cassettes, and 100 slide sets are available; as well as many CD-ROM and Internet-based databases. We currently subscribe to approximately 280 health sciences periodicals. The collection's original strength is in the visual sciences with extensive holdings in optometry, ophthalmology, and vision rehabilitation. Additional holdings include anatomy, audiology, physiology, neurology, optical sciences, visual and color perception, pediatrics, pharmacology, genetics and geriatrics.

As the Pennsylvania College of Optometry began the transition to Salus University, the library collection has been expanded to include robust support for the entire curriculum. The University confers degrees in several specialties, Including: Doctor of Optometry (O.D.); Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.); Physician Assistant Studies (M.M.S.); Master of Science in Low Vision Rehabilitation; Master of Science in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy; Master of Science in Orientation and Mobility Therapy; Master of Education in Education of Children and Youth with Visual and Multiple Impairments and many, related certificate programs. The University also offers a Master of Science in Clinical Optometry and a Bachelor of Science degree program for international ophthalmic practitioners.

The library coordinates its collection development policies with faculty liasons of all schools.  The Library also houses a historical collection of more than 500 books, many of which were published prior to the twentieth century.
