AccessMedicine

AccessMedicine® from McGraw-Hill is an innovative online resource that provides students, residents, clinicians, researchers, and all health professionals with access to more than 75 medical titles from the best minds in medicine, updated content, thousands of images and illustrations, interactive self-assessment, case files, time-saving diagnostic and point-of-care tools and a comprehensive search platform. 

PAEasy

Approximately 1,200 questions and answers that simulate the PANCE and PANRE, with full explanations. Robust Performance Profile allows users to track their results performance by topic and test scores over time and allows users to compare their scores to others using PAEasy, including test-takers at the users’ specific institutions.  
Three unique Testing Modes which include untimed practice mode, a timed exam, and a simulated test that replicates the official test and its conditions

 

ClinicalKey

PubMed
Search Medline for references to articles from up to 1800 biomedical journals, from the National Library of Medicine website. Access numerous other medical and health databases as well.  Increasingly a source of full text online.

MedLine Bookshelf
The Bookshelf is a growing collection of full text biomedical books that can be searched directly.

PubMed Central
PubMed Central is a digital archive of life sciences journal literature managed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM).

NLM Ejournals
Links to virtually all electronically published health related journals. Links to other repositories of FREE online publications as well as links to publisher’s websites, which allow free access to articles from 6 months to one year after publication.

Highwire Press
A division of the Stanford University Libraries, HighWire Press hosts the largest repository of high impact, peer-reviewed content, with 1112 journals and 4,695,123 full text articles from over 140 scholarly publishers. HighWire-hosted publishers have collectively made 1,861,498 articles free.

Google Scholar
Drawn from scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all broad areas of research. Provides links to articles which have cited the current article as well as articles cited by it. 

Directory of Open Access Journals
This service covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. There are now 3272 journals in the directory. Currently 1061 journals are searchable at article level. As of 3/08, 176801 articles are included in the DOAJ service.

Free Medical Journals
More than 430 free medical journals available in several languages.

Oaister
OAister currently provides access to 15,479,509 digital records from 936 contributors. OAIster is a union catalog of academically-oriented digital resources, including much original material not generally available on the open web.

ERIC
ERIC is the world's largest source of education information, with more than 1 million abstracts of documents and journal articles on education, research and practice.

Reference Sight
From the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry, provides free access to a comprehensive database of current references relating to contact lenses, refractive surgery and external ocular disease.  Search 140,238 references from 2296 refereed journals and professional periodicals, many of which are not listed by any other database.  Full abstracts and links to e-text are included where possible, as well as links to publishers and reprint sites.  It includes an image library with approximately 400 images/8.

Scirus
Scientific Search Engine.  Useful for searching MedLine citations and Biomed Central articles.

Library of Congress Gateway
Search Library of Congress catalog or dozens of other academic and national library catalogs around the world.

WorldCat
Allows searches of the collections and resources of more than 10,000 libraries worldwide.  Provides subject searching, limits to specific media, such as digital, Braille, maps, etc. and end user reviews.

National Library of Medicine Databases & Electronic Resources
Access to all National Library of Medicine databases and National Institutes of Health online resources.

NLM Gateway
Limited search interface allows searching multiple NLM databases including: Clinical Alerts, Clinical Trials, LOCATORplus, MEDLINEplus, Pubmed, Toxnet, HSAT (Health Services Technology Assessment text) and OLDMEDLINE (non-abstracted MEDLINE citations from 1958 -1965). Results are organized by database.

Martindale’s Health Science Guide
The Health Science Guide contains over 140,850 Medical Cases & Grand Rounds; 1,560 Courses/Textbooks; 67,800 Teaching Modules & Files; 550 Journals; 4,800 Databases, Atlases & Image Databases plus 1,000's of Videos and Movies. The site is organized by medical specialty.

Medicinenet 
Extensive, well organized links to short, consumer oriented articles, drug information, links to dozens of other medical websites and newsletters.

eMedicine
Includes access to Online medical textbooks and journals,. Browse by medical specialty.

Medline Plus
Good general source of medical information, both for professionals and the general public.

Search Engines

All search engines have unique content and a different blend of strengths and weaknesses. 

Searches which are important should be submitted to more than a single search engine for best results.

 

Google
Largest general search engine.  Many other tools such as Google Mail, Blogger and Google Groups

Yahoo Search Engine
Second largest general search engine.  Organized by categories as well as spidered search results

Live Search
Miscosoft's, third largest general search engine.  Some unique content. Provides automatic local search options.

Ask.com 
Formerly Ask Jeeves.  Has good features to refine searches.

Gigablast 
Smaller database but searches meta-tags, connects to the Wayback Machine and has more accurate detection of actual publication dates of records in its Freshness Dating feature.

Exalead 
Smaller database but provides useful options to narrow or refine a search.

Ixquick
Very good Meta-Search engine.  Searches many prominent search engines simultaneously (in parallel), eliminates duplicates and ranks results.

Google -Uncle Sam
Special search engine for Searches government databases and websites.

Findlaw
Everything to do with the law, lawyers and legal forms.  Channels for students, professionals and the public.

Infospace
Search in extensive Yellow Pages and White Pages and World Directories.  Find individuals through telephone and email search tools.
